The Founder Journey
Every Great Venture Starts With An Idea
At Camp Ascendela, every founder begins her journey with something powerful:
An idea for making the world a little better.
Before camp begins, founders identify a challenge they care about, imagine a solution, and begin exploring how they can create meaningful change.
Over four weeks, they transform that idea into a venture through creativity, entrepreneurship, leadership, collaboration, and community impact.
The Camp Ascendela journey is designed to help founders grow not only as entrepreneurs, but also as thinkers, communicators, leaders, and changemakers.
Before Camp
The Journey Begins Before Day One
Camp Ascendela officially begins in July, but founders start preparing two weeks earlier.
This pre-camp experience helps participants build confidence and arrive ready to learn, collaborate, and create.
Mindset
Founders begin by exploring perseverance, growth mindset, resilience, and determination.
Using ideas inspired by Grit by Angela Duckworth, participants reflect on questions such as:
What does it mean to keep going when something feels difficult?
How do successful people learn from failure?
What helps us continue improving?
Entrepreneurship always involves challenges, and developing a strong mindset helps founders approach those challenges with confidence.
Social Impact
Before camp begins, founders explore how people create positive change within their communities.
Participants learn about:
Community needs
Social entrepreneurship
Changemakers
Nonprofits
Civic engagement
These lessons help founders connect their own ideas to real-world impact.
Solution Proposal
Every founder submits a one-page Solution Proposal.
This is not a business plan.
It is simply an opportunity for participants to share:
A problem they care about
Why it matters
An idea they would like to explore
The people they hope to help
This proposal becomes the starting point for their founder journey.
Boston Public Library Preparation
Camp Ascendela encourages lifelong learning.
Founders prepare to use books, articles, online resources, and Boston Public Library materials throughout the accelerator.
We want every founder to discover that learning does not stop when camp ends.
